Gaps4xpats aims to offer expatriate students the opportunity to work in a private school, in a secure, stable and supportive environment. You will be given board, lodgings and a financial allowance in return for performing a range of tasks and duties at the school's discretion.

The Role of a Gap Student
Your roles will vary from school to school and the school will take into account your skills and interests.
The following are areas of responsibility in which gap students could be involved;
• Sports coaching / assisting a coach
• Involvement in drama / music
• Activities supervision day / evening
• Games supervision
• Outdoor pursuits including Cadets, Duke of Edinburgh
   Awards and School camps
• Swimming pool supervision 
• Playground supervision
• Boarding house supervision
• Attending and assisting at school functions
• Office Duties; filing, photocopying and general office tasks
• Assisting in teaching departments, setting up equipment,
  store room maintenance  

Working Hours
This varies from school to school. Generally you will get one and a half days off a week as well as some time off during the day / evening. Most schools are flexible and will allow you to pursue an outside interest as long as ALL your responsibilities are met.
 
Money
Gap students will receive an income from the school.  The amount does vary slightly from school to school but will be around AUS$400 per month. Both amount and method of payment are at the schools discretion. Schools will provide you with a room, bedding, food and laundry facilities. Most meals are generally eaten in the schools dining hall, which provides meals for the schools boarders and staff.
 
Code of Conduct
In your role as a gap student you will be recognised as a member of staff. Like any job you will be expected to conform to certain standards. It is very important that you have a very clear understanding of expected codes of conduct so that your term as a Gap is a successful one.
Contract: Honour the term of your contract.
Punctuality: Be on time to all your jobs and always be prepared.
Dress: Suitable attire at all times. If working in the office for males this often means collar and tie. Appropriate sports kit if coaching teams.
Appearance: Boys hair will need to be above the collar and neat and tidy with no excessive colouring. Piercings will need to be removed.
Guests: Schools normally permit visitors of the same sex. Those of the opposite sex will in most circumstances be allowed to visit however overnight stays would not be permitted.
Relationships: Under NO circumstances may a Gap student form a liaison with a student of the school.
Language: A high standard will be expected. Swearing will not be tolerated.
Alcohol: Not permitted on school premises.
Smoking: All schools are non smoking areas.
Internet: Usually available to Gap Students. Excessive, irresponsible and inappropriate use will not be tolerated.
Attitude: Be postive, be punctual, be involved.

How to Apply / Placement Procedure
Step 1. Fill out online application / personal statement along with submission of registration fee US$100 before 30 April 2010.
Step 2. Telephone interview will be arranged with a consultant. 
Step 3. Successful applicants will receive notification of placement from Gaps for Expats by May 2010.
Step 4. Placement Fee of US$800 payment must be paid within 5 working days of above placement notification.
Step 5. Upon receipt of final payment you will receive an information booklet, which will include contact details of your Gap Coordinator at your assigned school.
